Happy 249th Birthday, America!

As family and friends gather to celebrate the Fourth of July this weekend, it's a meaningful time to reflect on the generations of brave men and women who have made tremendous sacrifices to preserve the freedoms we enjoy today.

While our celebrations may include swimming, grilling, and red, white, and blue decorations, it’s important to take a moment to honor our Veterans, the heroes who have fought and continue to fight for our country’s freedom.

We also recognize that many families will celebrate this holiday with an empty chair at the table, a reminder of the ultimate sacrifice made by loved ones in service to our nation. Behind every firework and flag, there are stories of courage, loss, and unwavering dedication. So, as we celebrate the birth of our nation and maybe enjoy a well-deserved day off, please keep those families in your thoughts and prayers. Take time to share the meaning of this holiday with your children and grandchildren, and always remember the price of our freedom.

I invite everyone to join us for the parish’s annual fireworks show! The St. John the Baptist Parish Independence Day Celebration will be held today at 6:00 p.m. Festivities will take place on both sides of the river at St. Peter Catholic Church in Reserve and St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Edgard. Fireworks will begin promptly at 9:00 p.m.

Wishing everyone a safe and meaningful Independence Day.

Parish President Jaclyn Hotard
