Groundbreaking Marks Major Drainage Improvements for Reserve

St. John the Baptist Parish officials joined community partners today to break ground on the Reserve Relief Homewood Pump Station Replacement and Drainage Improvement Project, a major infrastructure investment aimed at strengthening drainage and flood protection in Reserve.

Funded through the Louisiana Watershed Initiative, the project will replace the existing Homewood Pump Station with a new 400 cubic-feet-per-second pump station and improve stormwater conveyance and drainage throughout the surrounding area.

The new station will include three primary high-capacity pumps, an additional standby pump for emergency use, a generator and supporting electrical infrastructure. The project also includes drainage pathway improvements extending from the Reserve Relief Canal area, across Airline Highway, and toward the Homewood neighborhood.

“This project is an important investment in the long-term protection of our residents and homes,” said Parish President Jaclyn Hotard. “Improving our drainage infrastructure and increasing our pumping capacity will help us build a stronger, more resilient St. John Parish.”

Additional work will include drainage crossings, upgrades to stormwater collection systems, site drainage improvements, and supporting infrastructure necessary for the new pump station.

The project represents another step in the Parish’s continued efforts to improve drainage infrastructure, reduce flood risk, and strengthen resiliency throughout St. John the Baptist Parish.
