The Reserve Canal is a canal system that connects to local marshlands and offers accessible, year-round freshwater fishing for species like largemouth bass, black crappie, and spotted bass. To fish legally at Reserve Canal, one must follow Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) requirements- a basic fishing license is required for all legal freshwater gear. Licenses can be purchased through the LDWF license portal. 

 

Peavine:103 Dottie Ln, Laplace, LA, 70068

The Peavine Boat Launch is a public, four lane facility located off of Highway 51 that offers large trailer parking and access to Lake Pontchartrain and Manchac. A fee of $2.00 per day typically applies for launching a vessel or parking; annual launch passes may be available for regular users. The launch is generally accessible 24/7, and visitors can enjoy a walking pier over the existing rock jetty or stop by Frenier Landing and Oyster Bar, a popular local dining spot in the immediate vicinity.   

 

Akers: 30.280629 -90.400375, off U.S. 51

The Akers boat launch is near the famous Middendorf's Restaurant, located at 30160 Hwy 51 S, and the Manchac Wildlife Management Area- 8,328-acres of protected swampland. This waterway connects Lake Maurepas and Lake Pontchartrain, serving as a gateway to the surrounding Manchac wetlands, bayous, and canals.    

 

Garyville Canal: 30.082413 -90.625540, just north of LA-44 (River Road) Garyville, LA

Also know as the Hope Canal, the Garyville Canal launch is located about a mile down a gravel road. Parking is free and the area is known to be rural, with little traffic.
