Parish President Hotard, Lt. Governor Nungesser Lead Kickoff for Economic Development Week in St. John the Baptist Parish

St. John the Baptist Parish– Parish President Jaclyn Hotard, joined by Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser and Port of South Louisiana Chief Executive Officer Paul Matthews, welcomed business leaders, elected officials, and community partners for the official kickoff ofEconomic Development Week. The event was held Monday morning at the Port of South Louisiana Headquarters.

“Progress is not simply a promise. It is our responsibility,” said Parish President Jaclyn Hotard. “In St. John Parish, we are investing more than $200 million in infrastructure to support long-term growth, attract opportunity, and strengthen the systems that keep our community moving forward. This work reflects a deliberate, forward-thinking approach to economic development, one rooted in action, accountability, and a clear commitment to the people we serve.”

The breakfast highlighted major public and private investments currently underway across the region and emphasized the importance of continued collaboration to drive local economic progress. Port CEO Paul Matthews underscored the Port’s commitment to long-term growth and quality of life:

“Economic Development Week reminds us that real growth happens when vision meets action,” said Matthews. “The Port of South Louisiana is committed to creating pathways for careers, businesses, and a better quality of life. When our people thrive, our region prospers. That commitment is reflected in the more than $1 billion in private investment announced for Globalplex in St. John Parish and over $100 million in ongoing projects.”

Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser delivered the keynote address, celebrating the role tourism plays in Louisiana’s economic landscape.

“We are proud to collaborate with St. John the Baptist Parish to attract more visitors,” said Lieutenant Governor Nungesser. “Tourism in Louisiana is big business and a powerful driver of economic growth. The hospitality industry is the fourth-largest employment sector in our state. By promoting our rich cultural heritage, historic landmarks, and the thriving port here in the River Parishes, we show the world that Louisiana is a place where you canFeed Your Soul.Each year, more visitors mean increased tax revenue and greater economic opportunity. With continued statewide collaboration and support, we can build on this momentum.”

The kickoff set the tone for a week focused on strengthening partnerships, honoring the contributions of local businesses, and highlighting the development projects shaping the future of St. John the Baptist Parish.
