Roots of Progress: Sunset Park Restoration Moves Forward

 Last weekend marked an exciting milestone for Sunset Park! Fifty native trees were planted as part of the Sunset Park Restoration Project, led by St. John Planning and Zoning. This second phase focuses on planting trees that help hold soil in place, further reduce erosion, absorb stormwater, and beautify this naturally low-lying area along Lake Maurepas.

The Conservation and Restoration Partnership Fund funded this project. Special thanks to Professor Eva Hillmann with Southeastern Louisiana University for the tree donation, Friends of Manchac for providing pine mulch, and St. John 4-H, Parks and Recreation, and all volunteers who helped make this effort a success.
